When Ember's mother murders her, Ember ends up in an afterlife that's nowhere near Heaven or Hell. Her only chance of survival involves accepting a fate far worse than death and becoming an Omen, a creature that collects evil souls, and if she dies this time, there is no Heaven, there is no Hell...
