Synopsis:
Written by Melbourne author Paul Sciberras, with illustrations by Roderick Wong (www.rodimus25.com), the Pablo series is an intricately woven story and coupled with its unique presentation style allows you to not only enjoy a traditional reading experience, but also be visually transported into the city of Swanson.
In a world where natural resources are depleted and habitable land is scarce, the people of Swanson, governed by an all-powerful man known only as the Minister, are led to believe that greed and commercialism are the cause of the world’s demise.
Individualism and self-expression threaten the Minister’s order and have been outlawed under the pretence of being self-gratifying qualities. The Minister enforces his rules with an effective cocktail of military forces and mind controlling pharmaceuticals, both distributed daily in abundance.
The story is about living in a world where you don’t feel you belong. About refusing to conform to social norms, especially when everyone demands you to, and making your own judgements in life. It’s about fighting for a world you want to live in!
Pablo Emmanuel and the Latones, the first story in the Pablo series, follows the uprising of Pablo and his band of revolutionary rock stars against this oppressive society. Pablo is the leader of an underground rock band, the Latones, whose non-conforming lyrics have made him the most wanted criminal in Swanson. He finds himself neck-deep in a world of drug-induced mind control when the relentless leader of the military forces, Manders, raids his concert. Pablo is captured and reinstated into the population with a new identity and no memory of his former life. Will the Latones find Pablo before Manders crushes their revolution?
