Hello all.

Tony D here. I do The Webcomic Factory and Super Frat. Starting in March, I purchased 19 TV spots on local cable TV that will run during Adult Swim from Midnight to 3am, for FIOS customers in the Philly, South Jersey and some Delaware, area. The reach is about 500,000 people and the ads only cost me about $10 a spot. (Plus I got a discount, so a little less.)

I made the spot using a Zi8 Kodak camera I bought in Staples during a special that was about $100 with rebate. Holds 10 hours of video.

Anyhow, if you want to see the spot, it's here. www.thewebcomicfactory.com/2012/02/21/as-the-mayo-turns-tv-spot/

I just thought it would also make an interesting discussion. I'm pretty sure it's the first time a webcomic site bought TV time. If you have any questions, let me know.

That's such a cool idea, I hope you'll keep us posted about the results. Two hundred bucks would buy a lot of PW ads, but you might hit a totally different audience with TV spots. Good luck!

Ooh, interesting (and less expensive than I would have thought). It will be interesting to see what kind of hike in traffic you get.

Whoa. You paid less than $200 to get 19 spots? I would have thought there'd be a minimum buy-in. Please write more about how you did this and how welcoming they are to small ad buys! Is it Verizon you're dealing with?

Adult Swim seems like a great demographic, and I guess it has the advantage of being cheap for being late at night. I love your commercial. Suits the channel's tone.

My instinct would be that it's going to be a low ratio between people lounging around watching Adult Swim and those who'll bother to remember and type in an advertised URL, but at $10 a pop it's certainly worth a try. I know they advertise all their website games on TV but then again those are all part of adultswim.com

I'll chime in with the rest and say I'm interested in how it goes!

That does seem like an incredibly good deal.
I hope it brings in some good traffic for you.

Thanks all.

I purchased the ads through the local Comcast. A friend of mine had a contact. For some reason, it was only good for Fios customers, but hey 500K is 500K. I figure someone out of that HAS to see the spots. I targeted Adult Swim for the late night stoner demographic since I tend to do a lot of comedy. But really, I could've bought on any channel on the system. Not sure of the prices outside the time frame. Obviously, if you're going with spots that late it would have to be on channels people watch that late. Adult Swim, maybe Comedy Central. I thought about MTV as well, but I figured that skewed a little young.

Plus I also targeted Fri, Sat and Sun, nights people tend to stay up. The first round is this weekend with 6 spots.

Keep you posted.

Okay, the first spots aired. Saw a spike in traffic from Yahoo, which is weird because I rarely get visitors from there.

I would assume that it's because midnight Adult Swim/Toonami viewers are too stoned to properly spell "Google", so they used the Yahoo spam bar on their browser to find your website.

I actually thought about doing that. I was thinking you could actually hit up an earlier time slot if you got 5 webcomics in on it. You could setup a website that would have links to all 5 webcomics and promote the one website in your commercial. I figured there would be a fairly high price tag on an earlier time slot.. so you could split the cost between the comic owners.

Just a thought.

I'd do it!
