Catchy thread title, isn't it?
Just like last year we are looking for people to form juries to decide the winners of each award and I'm hoping you lot have some suggestions for who you would like to see approached to do it and, better yet, that some of you might be willing to donate your time to be judges yourselves.
Judges will need to be available during january of next year to read some comics and make their decisions.
Keep in mind though if you want to volunteer, that judges' comics can not be nominated for an award. This only holds true for any years that they are acting as a judge. If somebody is a judge one year, but not the next then their comics will be eligible the second year, but not the first.
I hope that makes sense. _________________

Good suggestions. Thanks. : )
Rob was actually already on my list of people to ask, but not the others. _________________

I shall once again volunteer, but I'll keep it to one award this time, so put me down for Best Longform.
I believe we brought the topic up with Tom Siddell of Gunnerkrigg Court, last year's Best Comic, Best Longform and Best Writing winner, at the UK Wed and Mini Comix Thing in March, but I'm not sure if there was any follow-up. _________________ "S*P*Q*R" |

No follow up yet.
I didn't want to start emailing people until we had a fixed set of rules and a fixed schedule, which I think we do now unless any of the committee feel like bringing up any issues with them over the next few days. _________________

Mmmm, thoughts.
With these awards we have a little bit of a difficulty with publicity as we don't really want people to actively campaign for votes on their webcomic sites.
A partial solution: we try to get involved, as judges, EVERYONE who is part of the webcomic community but doesn't run a webcomic. This mainly means blogs and review sites.
So people like Frumph, El Santo, this guy, Ping Teo etc. Even with our limited number of awards we are in no danger of running out of judging slots. _________________ |

Luke makes a good point there. If these guys aren't running comics of their own, there's less chance of accusations of bias and more chance that we get the awards noticed by a larger audience. _________________

I'm happy with all those suggestions.
Edit: Although The Webcomicker doesn't seem to have updated in almost three years. _________________

You should ask the guys at the webcomic beacon too.
It might also be cool if you asked some people involved in teaching comics, like maybe some of the staff at The Center for Cartoon Studies, or some of the peeps involved with the sequential art program at SCAD. _________________ |

Hey all,
I'm flattered to be asked and happy to help.
I'd also like to nominate Kurt Hathaway as a judge (assuming it's ok I do that). I'm going to talk to him about it this week but I thought I would mention him to you so you had a heads up. Kurt has worked as an editor for Image we well as a letterer for about every big comic company there is.
Here is an old CV of his. It's missing some stuff but you get the gist.

Kurt currently runs his own company called Cartoon Balloons Studio. Here is a vid of the services they provide to... well all the big comic companies.

Kurts knowledge of webcomics is limited but he is curious about them and I think he would be eager for this opportunity to learn more. As I said, assuming you guys are ok with it I'll talk to him first chance I get.
Anyway, thanks again for asking. One or more of my staff members may also be interested in helping. I'll direct them here when they make up their minds.
Thanks again. _________________ |

I'm going to go ahead and volunteer this year. If we get the "best comic in a non-English language" category off the ground this year (and I hope we do), then I'll volunteer for that so we've got at least one poor sap*ahem*judge involved in it. If it doesn't, I'd be interested in the non-traditional art category. _________________

Rob referred me here from Webcomics Community and I would like to sign up to volunteer. I'd be interested in the best writing and/or best character category. _________________ Crossing Death: Action, Romance, Bubblecaps, and Death.
