Inspired by a comment on Webcomics.com, I went and looked at my visitors report on Google Analytics. I've looked at the "Map Overlay" many times, seeing which countries my readers live in (United States is first by a wiiiide margin, Canada a distant second followed by the UK), but until now I had no idea there was a second and even third layer of detail!

If I click on United States I can get a map of the country which tells me how my readership falls by state, and if I click on the state I can see the trend by city. How interesting! According to GA, in the last thirty days the greatest number of readers in the US come from California and then Texas. Which really surprises me. I would have thought I'd have more readers along the east coast, where I've done more convention appearances.

For Canada, the breakdown is not by province, which would make sense, but only by city. And here's where I start to doubt GA's data, because it tells me that in all of Toronto I only have one lone reader. Shocked C'mon, my home city, Canada's biggest city, where I've done like four different shows this past summer and have self-published comics since 1993? I don't think so.

Anyway, what kind of data are the rest of you getting? Does it make any more sense than mine?

EDIT: Ah, I see part of the problem now. For some reason different regions within Toronto, like Scarborough and Etobicoke and Don Mills are all listed separately. So when you add it all up I guess it works. Pretty confusing.

It looks like I'm getting the most hits from Cali and Texas, too. :O Third most: Tennessee! Amazing. Same for both my comics. And I got a whole one hit from Delaware.

This is fun. I wasn't aware of the location detail levels, either.

I think what's more fun is the keyword report. Someone found my site by typing "what he does he flails his arms".

But I've also got visits from Erfurt and Gera Germany. Not bad.

And Texas is the highest for me, but that isn't shocking as per my living there. Though I have a feeling that if I didn't, it'd still be the highest. There's so much space in Texas, it probably takes a while for people to get to the newspaper, so they most likely get around 85-90% of their comics online.

1st Highest: Ireland, my home country...cool
2nd USA: Largest english speaking nation on earth...makes sense.
3rd Finland: Whaaat?

I've known about this feature since the vet start, but after ireland and america all of the other countries are the same greenish colour. Upon clicking around however, Finland wins by a long shot.

Weirdly, in America California is my biggest source of visits,b ut \i've never gotten more than one from any individual city. I guess californians hate my comic :]

People like to read webcomics in here I´ve noticed (and girls may have been noticing your vlog´s handsome fellow charm). On the other hand, many people in here are self destructive having problems with alcohol and serious mental issues... But I don´t like to think that those things mentioned would be linked in a bad way. More likely I think it as other way around. So, keep on doing webcomics in order to prevent axe murders!

PS. Should I reconsider my earlier Li´l Nyet readership comment now? NO.

Top 4: USA, then Canada, then UK, then Australia. Would have thought UK would beat Canada, being larger and kinda where I live, but I guess Canadians have nothing else to do (maybe I should put this in that other thread). USA accounts for roughly 2/3 of traffic.

Top non-english speaking county is Germany

Some obscure countries:
Greenland: 1 visitor. Somalia: 2, Andorra (the explorer): 3

The following countries have abosultely zero referalls over all time: Zimbabwe, North Korea, Western Sahara, Papua New Guinea, Serbia, Eritrea, Chad, Cameroon, Congo, Burundi, Swaziland, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan

In other news, have you noticed how Google Analytics thinks Palestine is underwater?

I am about equally read in the UK and the US with Canada a very distant third. The rest of the world contributes very sporadic hits. The US readership is very pleasing as I wondered if a soccer comic would be popular.

The top US states are Virginia, California, New York and Washington ( west and east coasts! ) tho i have had visits from 43 states ( no luck however in MT, WY, SD, NM, RI, DE or KS ( even tho my favourite band come from there! )

My case isn't nothing particular. In my case, I've got a wide representantion from the US, Canada is second, then Germany (!) and then Chile, the country I'm living in at the moment. Europe is also doing fine, especially in the UK, for obvious reasons, together with Australia and NZ.

In the US, the states Alice Otter is more popular are: CA, WA, TX and NY. Weird! Smile

I've come to realize that there are loyal followers of my strip in Malaysia and Thailand (it's easy to tell when you've got followers in a city 'cause the 'new visits percentage' is usually low), Nuremberg in Germany and Liverpool in the UK.

Most of my hits are from my home state of Illinois. Then it's California, with Texas and New York tied for third place.

As for traffic from other countries, Australia, Canada, and the UK are big visitors. Italy is in there too.

for my comic, the top five countries are the US (by an enormous margin), Canada, the UK, Australia, and Germany.

Within the US: California (by almost twice as much as -->), Texas, Florida, New York, and Washington.

I wonder what it is about California.

Yeah, I'm wondering what it is about California and Texas, too. Is it just population? CA and TX are the biggest states, so they just naturally have the most webcomic readers? Or do those states somehow have stronger webcomic presences/awarenesses than other states?

Why, for example, does Michigan fall so far down my list (it's state #14), when I've been there so often for conventions? Why do I have so many hits from Georgia (the state)?

The original post that got me interested in this, actually, was suggesting that we comic creators should look at these GA demographics to help determine which conventions we should think about attending. Based on my stats... I'm just confused.

My top countries are US, Canada, UK and Germany
Top states are California, Texas, New York, and Arizona
Top US cities are Phoenix, Baltimore, Portland, Troy, and New York
Top Canadian cities are Barrie (where I live, so not surprising), Etobicoke, Edmonton, Vancouver, and Calgary

I'm curious if anyone doesn't have California and Texas as heavy hitters.

Google Analytics is a wonderful tool. I've been tracking visitors to my site since 2006.

Since then I've received visitors from 117 countries and territories which includes some non-independent islands.

By far the top country is the US (62 percent) followed by Canada, the UK and Sweden.

I have had hits from places as diverse as Iraq, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Barbados, Peru and Nepal.

The only continent I haven't conquered is Africa, with only 6 countries visiting.

Like many other posters, Texas and California are the top US States. (Followed by Florida, Michigan and Pennslyvania. I have hits from every state in the US, and the lowest is North Dakota.

Some hits have come from The Boeing Company, Oxford University and even the Pentagon (?)
